Fear - Freewrite

Being afraid of something is normal, but that doesn't mean its in control of one's life. Fear truly is a choice, on decides whether fear or their own courage and will decide the course of their life. There is a famous english writer by the name of Allen Watts. Most of the things he talks about question the beliefs and morals of the viewers and everyone alive in general. Allen asks the question " What do you think it will be like when you die?" He then answers his own question with another question, he says "Actually I have a better question, what do you think your life was like before you were born. These questions make people ponder their overall existence and what is to become of them. Which is interesting because those are harsh topics that should pronounce fear. Yet they are joked about, and not taken seriously until they are occurring and conflicting and individual, Its the centered aspect to fear. Allen is right though, these questions need to be pondered and answered. time moves swiftly and before an individual knows it, they are at the end of their journey. So with this knowledge of a limited life, and that death is always on our heels ready to pounce. What is their to be afraid of? Why be afraid of death if its going to happen whether we fear it or not. So should the logical choice be, to live a life achieving one's dreams and ambitions. The truth is that we are all dying, but its what you do while you are alive that defines who you are. So the only thing to be afraid of then, is yourself, because you choose how you live your life. Once an individual understands and agrees with these morals, then anything is possible. There are quite a lot of people in this world that agree with those morals. For me the person who showed me that my fears can be overcome and controlled by choice and will, was my best friend Murah. With him, and the new mindset he gave me, we went on adventures and dangerous journeys no other teenagers ever have and ever will, they are unique to our lives only. And right when I felt as if there was nothing to be afraid of anymore, and that life was perfect. Murah moved away, and my greatest fear blossomed exponentially. I was left in a desolate place of doubt, thinking I would never be able to see my best friend again. But I took control of my fear, and used it to convey a message that the rest of the world needed to hear. I did so by making a film of what Murah and I  did while he was here. I wanted the world to appreciate what they presently have in their lives, because nothing is permanent, not even fear. And in a way, fear is a good thing, If we never were afraid and uncomfortable with things, there would be no challenge in life. It would be a boring story to tell if there was no conflict. Why live a comfortable repetitive life, when you could have an action packed life that you will never forget. Why are people afraid of living the best life possible, its illogical. I personally know I am going to live my life to the fullest. I will not be afraid to do what it takes to accomplish my dreams.

Aperture, Shutter, and ISO

Aperture
F2.8

Creates Bokehs in the background due to the depth of field.

F16

1. What part of the body should we closely relate aperture?
The human eye, and how the pupil gets larger and smaller to adapt to the amount of light.
2. Finish this sentence - the smaller the Aperture ____the larger the f-stop__, the higher the Aperture ____the smaller the f-stop_______.
3. In your own words tell me how aperture impacts Depth of Field?
The higher the f-stop the deeper the depth of field is, the lower the f-stop the narrower the depth of field is.

Shutter Speed
Very Fast Shutter Speed:

Long Exposure Shutter Speed:

At the beginning while the sun was still up and the courtyard had reasonable good light
a.) a booth in the middle of the yard near the Tree
I would say around 250 to 300 Due to the shade from the tree,
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings
A shutter of around 150- 120
c.) the Stars performance inside the gym
Would change the white balance, then probably a shutter of 150- 200
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard
Shutter of 400-500
e.) people streaming in from the front doors
Shutter of300-350
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop
Shutter of 400-500

Towards the end when there is no sun and has gotten dark enough that you can't see from one end of the courtyard to the other.

a.) a booth in the middle of the yard near the Tree
First of since it got dark, I would lower my aperture as low as it could go and possibly grab a tripod.
Shutter speed 20-30
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings
Shutter Speed 20-40
c.) the Stars performance inside the gym
Shutter speed of 200 - 300
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard
Would  barely be able to see them, so maybe use a flash, but without one
60-100
e.) people streaming in from the front doors
Shutter speed 50-90
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop
Shutter speed 60-100

ISO
1. What are the advantages of shoot at a higher ISO at a sporting event like basketball or a night football game?
Shooting with a higher ISO creates artificial light meaning you can then raise your shutter speed to capture sharper pictures which is what you need for action photography.
2. What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO?
You use a low ISO when there is enough light in the environment.
3. What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO?
Typically in a low light environment you want to use a higher ISO.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics.

The article goes over and shows examples of when editing with photoshop can go to far, even when its not intentional. It shows the difference between carelessly affecting and altering a photo out of reality vs purposely changing a photo to lie.
Photo editing can be either ethical or unethical, there isn't really ground between the two.
I would say its ethical if its not changing the photo in a way that harms or can change the message of the photo. That is the true purpose of a photo after all, is to tell a story, so if its altered and made false, then its not ethical, its not real anymore.

The Most Unethical Photo:
August 26, 1989: TV Guide pastes Oprah's head onto Ann Margaret's body
Its quite obvious why this is unethical, nothing about this photo is real! They literally superimposed Oprahs face onto someone else's body, who does that?

The Most Ethical Photo:
May 1970: Pulitzer Prize-winning photo by John Filo shows Mary Ann Vecchio screaming as she kneels over the body of student Jeffrey Miller at Kent State University on May 4, 1970 -- after being fired upon by National Guardsmen.Valley Daily News, 1970 (bottom)
Life Magazine, May 1995 (top)

Out of all the photo shown on the website I would say this is the most ethical because nothing is added or removed from the photo and it still tells the same story. Even though the content of the photo is quite sad, the only thing changed were the levels of white and black color in the photo.

CE #4.2

1. How many students attend an AISD school? Page A1 "Austin district no longer...."
According to the article 84,591 students attend AISD.
2. How (not how much) will Big Ben State Park potentially grow by 578 acres? Page B1 "Big Bend State Park..."
Big Bend is planning on growing by exchanging land with a ranch owner on the other side of the boundary.
3. What are the Pantone colors of the year? Page SA2 "New top Pantone colors..."
The Patone colors of the year are Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue.
4. Do you know anyone who colors? What do you think about this new trend? Page D1 "Coloring Craze"
I love to draw and color, my friends don't tend to and I don't really know anyone who really likes coloring as much as I do. I think that this is an awesome trend because its such a simple idea that has so many beneficial features.
5. Which of these would you like to attend this weekend if you could? WHY? Page D2 "The Long Weekend"

Going to hear Deepak Chopra at the Paramount Theatre sounds really cool. I find that I take more away from inspirational speeches than I do going being forced to learn something. I think I would really connect with this guy and would be really interested to go.

The hottest year:
The article shows how this year has been a very weird year climate wise. How this year Texas received a lot of rain and was quite warm. They are pointing this out at global warming, and that its manly from emissions and green house gases. With these higher temperatures, the way of life in areas have to change. Farming and growing crops in an area that used to have great conditions would now be slowly be warming up and not have enough water to supply the plants. I personally do care about global warming, and it scares me a little that we are quite simply destroying our home. But yet often I try to push the thought away, and think that someone else will do it for me. The sad truth is that my perspective is very common, and its very inhuman, because with everyone thinking someone else will fix the problem, then it will never actually be solved. As a society, and as humans, we need to start being more selfless, and caring a lot more about this treasure of ours, cause it ain't going to fix itself. Any effort to help fix global warming is helpful, and there is a solution to stopping our pollution, and to killing our planet. Were just all going to have to work to figure out what exactly that is. Global warming is a fairly big issue, but as long as it doesn't seem like the world is heating up, no one is going to care.  Which is  like stated before is the bigger issue, we need to fix the problem now, so it doesn't grow into something we can't stop.

Photography Composition

Simplicity: This photo even though disturbing and sad, does follow the rules of simplicity, showing one subject and with a background that is repetitive and also it gives the feeling of falling because the lines are vertical.

The rule of thirds: The plane in this photo is on the line between the top right square and the middle right square forcing the viewer to look at the plane, and the building is centered on the left vertical line.
Presenting a sense of space in-between, but not much.

Lines: The buildings symmetric structure is lined up vertically making the viewers look at the picture from top to bottom or visa versa. As well as making the non symmetric parts of the picture like the people hanging of the edge of the building stand out more.

Balance: This photo has symmetric balance by showing two different objects in the photo, but having them be lined up and symmetrical.

Framing: The photographer of this photo framed the picture having a subject in the front expressing their fear of what was going on that day, and in the background showing the world trade centers smoking, and cut the subject off at the waist.

Merger: The merger of this photo would be a border merger since the feet of the three people are out of frame and cut of by the border of the photo.

Create Depth: The foreground of this photo with the people next to the flag really stand out agains the faded background of the 9/11 ruins. Its a ver powerful photo with a very strong sense of depth.

Cropping: In this photo the groups of people are the main subjects and the rest of the scene is cropped out, because this photo is meant to show the reaction and state that the people were in on 9/11.

Viewpoint: (don't know why the image is so low resolution) The viewpoint of this photo shows the Empire state building and the attacks of 9/11 in the background, a very powerful photo with a very interesting viewpoint from which the photo was taken.

Symmetry and leading lines: This photo displays where the plane entered the world trade center, the latticed lines lead to the opening, almost instantly making the viewer look at the destruction.

Photography:
My favorite photo in the newspaper is on page 4, I enjoy black and white pictures most of the time, but especially when they do their homework. This picture contains true black areas, and true white areas, meaning they took the time to edit the photo.
My least favorite photo is on the bottom of page, and this is because you can't see the girls face, I get the whole prick in the finger thing but they should have also had her face be in the picture. I love the meaning behind the picture and the intention, but it could have been shot better.
I would have like to have done the zilker photo because personally I love night time/long exposure photography, and the picture that was used was a little sad in my opinion. There could have been some nice depth of field or simply more color.

Story Pitch:
I think a cool topic would be "What inspires students" and having students be interviews and asked what inspires them to achieve their goals and to push through the hard times of life.
Another story Idea would to be about the cities plans to build a "bike highway" from the wildflower center all the way to the capital, having it branch off through the whole city and to encourage the use of bicycles.

Welcome Back Journalism Assignment

I really like this photo for multiple reasons, first is because of the perspective, it makes the neighborhood and houses in it feel very small. As well as showing how on one side their is civilization but on the other their is only sand.

I have seen many pictures that were taken in this "Hallway" and is a place I, as a photographer, really want to go and visit. Especially at sunset in the fall because thats when it makes the walls look pink and then blue in some areas.

This is a long exposure picture that shows the northern lights, which to me is very beautiful to say the least. The amount of color in this picture really drew me in and had me staring at it for a while. I have shot many long exposure photos but never of the northern lights or having the stars be that visible due to light pollution in the area that I live.

I thought that biggest song of 2015 had to be Maroon 5's Sugar, personally I thought that this song was super catchy and fun to sing along with as well as having a great beat and vocals. Also this was a song that during the summer was played very often so it really followed me around every where I went, so during some of my highlights of the summer this song was playing at some point.

This may sound funny, but out of all the movies that came out this year, I gotta say shaun the sheep had to be my favorite. This is because many of the movies this year were really bad at doing one thing in my opinion, connecting to the audience.  Even the New Star Wars (Which was fantastic) still had trouble doing this. Shaun the Sheep the movie really pursues a sense of family, never giving up, tells a good story, and is quite funny.

The Terrorist Attacks In Paris, completely shook the whole world, and the world of media as well. This attack was one of the biggest news stories this year and was one that had everyone stop in their tracks. That day made me think about how sad it is that a person could become so messes up as to go commit suicide and bring hundreds of people with them. That day was a wake up call for the whole world to end this war on terror and to stand up against the brokenness of today.

I don't want to say that Abu Bakr was the most "important" person of 2015, but rather his actions and the actions of ISIS had the most impact on the world. They have spread terror and evil actions throughout the world, and their goal is to, quite frankly take over the world, but thats not at all whats going to happen.

2015 was a big year for the Freerunning (Parkour) community. Dk won the 2015 art of motion in santorini, Jesse Laflairs "OTE" series introduced more than 500,000 people to the art of parkour, and the freerunning film "From here to There" was released. I am a freerunner, which is why these events stuck out to me a lot personally.

Winter Break:
This winter break I released two new films on YouTube, went on many adventures, upgraded my computer so I can edit videos faster, and hung out with friends and family. Definitely was the best winter break I have has so far. This year I want to release more films than I did last year and I want to become a better traceur, runner, and leader for my youth group. I am looking forward to XC this year and to the many adventures that await for me.
