Every Second

This spring break was by far the best one of my life. Probably since I had a lot more freedom, was capable of doing more things, and had the equipment to share my experiences with the world.
The break started off with a nice trip to the falls, where I took long exposure pictures during the day of moving water. Since the photo was to bright I used a polarization and neutral density cap to lower the amount of light in the photo without changing the shutter speed or the aperture. I would share those photos but I cant email them to myself on school wifi.
The day after I went driving for the first time in my dads car, was a awesome experience. I thought that driving would be hard, I was right, partially. I also did a lot of filming for my new running film and spent the rest of the day editing. On sunday I went to church, edited some more, came up with a spring break plan, and then went to youth group, a pretty boring day to say the least.
Then monday came around and everything changed, I got up off my but and did some serious biking, running and parkour, was a very strength induced day. I also did some more editing for a film I would later release that week. On tuesday, I reconnected with a friend, Kaedon, I hadn't hung out with in quite a long time. We filmed a lot of parkour footage, did our first front flips and side flips on land. Then later that day slept over at my house and took some really interesting long exposure shots using UV light to illuminate subjects in the photo.
Not UV photo, just a long exposure from that night,(already had this photo)

Wednesday was similar to tuesday but I went to the pool and used their sandpit to even more flips, was an exciting day. At about 6 I headed off to my church to lead my youth group which had a small audience since most people were on vacation. On thursday most of my friends who were on vacation came back and we all went to the pool and did more flips. We also discovered such things as a portable trampoline, highly recommend buying one, the possibilites are endless. Friday comes around and im already feeling the nervousness of school coming back, but I push the thoughts away and enjoy what I have left. This is when stupid risk taking mode turned on. Friday was the day me and my friends did so many new parkour tricks and did things that don't really seem humanly possible. For example, me and Kaedon climbed a 3 story tree, and could see all the way to downtown. It was one of the most awesome stupid choices I have ever made, and as a photographer, of course I took pictures and video.
This is when a mentality of no limitation plugged into my head. So on saturday we hung an eno from one part of that tree to the other, and got in it. Ive never felt such an adrenaline rush in my life. After that I realized I had more than enough footage to put together a new film,  So I did. I spent practically my whole saturday in a dark living room editing, it was very painful, but worth it. I then released my film, "Every Second"

Which is mainly a montage of the recent adventures me and my friends have been on. Shows most of the things I talked about in this free-write and more. Highly suggest you go check it out, just go on youtube and look up "Jakilleen" and its my newest film.

Magazine Peer Review

Austyn Magazine :http://austynksjournalismblogs.blogspot.com/
a. What is the name of the magazine that you looked at and who made it?
The name of the magazine is "INSANITY" and was made by Austyn K.
b. List two things you liked about the magazine cover
First of all, its very creative and has a lot of energy and enthusiasm to it. Its not your every day portrait of someone looking into the camera. Austyn literally painted her face with different colors of paint for her magazine. Which just goes to show the more effort you put into something, the better the results.
c. Suggest something to the creator to improve the cover
Overall theres not much I would change, besides maybe zooming in the photo a little bit and changing the dark blue text to a different color because it blends in just a little.
d. Why did you pick this cover? Specifically what attracted your eyes.
I chose this cover because their are a lot of colors that attracted my eye as well as it overall being a interesting photo and magazine.
e. Is there a bar code? Is it appropriate in size and located in the correct place?
There is a bar code, its a little big but its definitely in the right place.
f. If you were walking by the magazines in Barnes and Nobles would you pick this
magazine up and look at it? Why or Why not?
Most likely, its colorful and interesting, but since their is also a lot of gray in the photo I may not have noticed it as well. Maybe a different background would have boosted the magazine to be even more appealing.
Can you tell if it was a portrait or self-portrait?
Its quite obvious its a self-portrait.

Sophies Magazine: http://sophiesjournalismblog.blogspot.com/
a. What is the name of the magazine that you looked at and who made it?
The name of the magazine is "Musical Minds" and was made by Sophie W.
b. List two things you liked about the magazine cover
The color of the text and font of the text was chosen very wisely, the image is sharp, properly exposed and overall looks great.
c. Suggest something to the creator to improve the cover
I would say it needs a different background, not that the background is bad, but it could be better. If it were a bright blue or green it would make the magazine stand out more.
d. Why did you pick this cover? Specifically what attracted your eyes.
I chose this cover because its obvious what the subject is, Sophie even cut out part of the title to make it look like it was behind Catarina.
e. Is there a bar code? Is it appropriate in size and located in the correct place?
There is a bar code and it is sized and placed perfectly.
f. If you were walking by the magazines in Barnes and Nobles would you pick this magazine up and look at it? Why or Why not?
Probably, but like I said before, if it had a background that contrasted more with the subject It would make the magazine stand out more.
g. Can you tell if it was a portrait or self-portrait?
Yes I could tell it was a portrait.

Claires Magazine: http://clairesjournalismblog.blogspot.com/
a. What is the name of the magazine that you looked at and who made it?
The name of the magazine is "Exposed" by Claire M.
b. List two things you liked about the magazine cover
Claire did a great job of placing the text in the right places, making the subject stand out, and the overall color balance, composition and exposure are great.
c. Suggest something to the creator to improve the cover
The first thing I noticed that I think should be changed is centering the subject, his head should be in the center of the photo. Other than that I think there isn't much that should be changed.
d. Why did you pick this cover? Specifically what attracted your eyes.
I really like this cover because of the creativity and imagination that was put into it. Only certain parts of the magazine are in color, which makes it easy for then to contrast with the background and they stand out.
e. Is there a bar code? Is it appropriate in size and located in the correct place?
The bar code is sized and placed perfectly.
f. If you were walking by the magazines in Barnes and Nobles would you pick this magazine up and look at it? Why or Why not?
Highly likely, It stands out a good amount on its own, just think the title should have a drop shadow or something to make it pop out more than the other text.
Can you tell if it was a portrait or self-portrait?
I could tell that it was a portrait.

Newspaper Introduction

1. I think my favorite newspaper front page out of the ones I saw was from the burlington free press. This is because it is mainly filled with pictures, and overall is very attractive.
2. The most attractive headline out of the few on the front cover is "Hometown Hero" which goes over Bernie sanders win in his own hometown.
3. There are only two stories on the front cover of the burlington free press.
4. Most newspapers have the hottest topics of the day on the front, for example today, almost every newspaper I looked at had something about politics on the front. Newspapers in general seem to have similar style and color palettes.
5. What newspapers do differently first off is their writing, obviously they have different writers and publishers, but its the style of those writers that gives the newspapers different moods and tones. The other thing that commonly differs between newspapers is what they talk about the most, newspapers have to relate to the people so that they will be read, and every part of the world is different, which then reflects on the newspapers.

High School Newspapers:
1. I like the Odyssey Newspaper for multiple reasons. The font and title is very nice and works with the image, and the image itself is sharp, and has some nice depth of field.
2. I thought that Northmen's Log instantly grabbed my interest. This is because it has nice colors that work with the title and the photo overall is very dynamic and attractive.
3. Going back to the Odyssey , I would like to read the section that is labeled "junior finds a new way to play the sport he has always loved.
4. There are only two headlines on the newspaper cover I enjoyed the most.
5. All the High School newspapers have either a student/s on the front cover or the work of a student. The also all enjoy using very bold titles and having more picture than they do words. More like text married to type rather than in a forest of words.
6. The color schemes and topics of all the newspapers are different, I don't think I saw one that was very similar in that aspect.
7. They also all are not talking about politics or a big subject on every ones mind, its even more local and related to that area than a regular newspaper. The storys and topic all come from the same environment for that newspaper.

Apple Vs The FBI
I find this whole situation to be quite silly. The government obviously is not going to court with apple so they can only open these phones. Of course they want to spy on us and take advantage of the power apple will have given them. Exactly why apple shouldn't give them the key, and their is no law saying they have to. The government is simply power hungry and want to take advantage of apple. I don't think Apple should ever have to give out access to their products to anyone. If someone took my phone, of course I would want to be able to access that information, good thing apple has that already built in. Their is ICloud, all you stuff is saved to your name and information meaning that by losing your phone you are not losing access to the information, It just means that someone else now has access to it as well. National security has no business in Apples policies or moral standards, but the phones that were of people who have done messed up things, only then should they be concerned. Which makes no sense because the phones the governments wanted to unlock Apple has already unlocked a ton and said they would unlock the rest but not give out the authorization key to the government. Further proving my point the government is only seeking power out of this. Personally, my father has social media himself and does check what I post and does generally monitor the information that comes and leaves our house. Totally fine with me since I don't post bad things or use the internet for bad. I think that yes parents should monitor some of the information their children are taking in and viewing but shouldn't be internet crazy about it and check every little thing they do. Thats overprotection, and overprotected children usually have a lack of many necessary skills in life. Children should be exposed to technology on their own terms. I know that sounds weird, but its all so interesting. I remember when I was really young that I wanted to use my dads computer and browse the web but he wouldn't let me. Theres an aspect of curiosity the only technology can expand in grow. The best time to grow those attributes is in childhood, but the technology isn't all good. So technology for children should be monitored, and as a teenager as well just not as much. Once the individual has reached adult hood that shouldn't be a problem, if they grew up with the right character and moral standards they will know what technology should and should not be used for.
